I'm Itchy: Vaginal Itching And What To Do About It
So, you have been itching in your lady parts for more than a few days and not only is it beginning to get on your nerves, the itching is getting worse! What in the world is a girl to do?
Vaginal itching, or vaginitis, can be caused by any number of things such as bacteria getting trapped for a long time due to clothing that is too tight. (Just think of how many layers we wear: underwear, leggings and jeans on a cold winter day.)The warm and moist environment created by your clothes provides the perfect breeding ground for bacteria to grow and multiply. And when it grows, you itch.
You probably already know that itching is a symptom of many different things, from a yeast infection (Candida albicans) to bacterial vaginosis to herpes. Your itching could also be your body’s way of communicating to you that the products you use are too strong. Maybe your soap, deodorant, or dye in your clothes is too intense. If you are near menopause, then the itching could mean that your vaginal tissue is thinning. Sometimes it is not so serious, and sometimes it is. This is why it is important to visit your doctor if symptoms stick around for more than a week.
Okay, now for what you really want to know. How can you stop that infernal itching?
Take a salt bath. Most types of vaginitis will be alleviated with this easy at-home remedy. All you need to do is add half a cup of salt to your bath. When you get in, you should insert a finger into your vagina to allow the salt water inside. Remove your finger and relax for a bit while the salt works its magic. If your vaginitis can be treated at home, then two to three nights in a row of a warm salt bath should clear it right up.
Are you using the right type of condom? If you always seem to feel itchy after using a condom, then you may have a latex, lubricant, or powder allergy. This does not mean that you should avoid condom use. They are a great protector against diseases and pregnancy. You could have your partner use a lambskin condom instead. Though, you should be aware that this type of condom does not protect you from all diseases. Your partner should double up with a regular condom and a lambskin one to protect both of you.
Lay off the sex. You should not have any intercourse until your itching has stopped. If you are itching because of something your partner gave you, then you will be infected again and the itching will not stop. Take a break, and allow your body time to recuperate.
